Advice and General Information

Your hunting or fishing trip is organised by Strand and Veldt. All trips are subject to the availability of your chosen destination and itinery. Our packages are designed to comply with The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 et seq. (UK Law)

Booking and payment

No contract comes into existence until we have received your cleared funds for your deposit. The deposit will consist of payment of 40% of the daily rates for the length of your trip. Sole hunters must be 18 years of age or older at the time of booking. The balance of the daily rates must be paid no later then 6 weeks prior to the commencement of the safari.

Group bookings will be taken on the basis that we will have responsibility for the group as a whole and that the group will stay together for the duration of the hunting or fishing trip.

The balance of the safari will be payable at the conclusion of the trip. This will include trophy fees and any other costs not included in the contract that have been expended on your behalf and with your permission whilst in our care. If we arrange airline tickets on your behalf, they must be paid for in full at the time they are booked.

Final payment in Namibia or South Africa may be made via cash, traveler's cheques or telegraphic bank transfer. UK cheques, bank transfer, cash, debit card or visa may make payment for the deposits.

For bookings made within 6 months of the departure date, we will guarantee all prices. For those made for more than 6 months in advance, we reserve the right to alter our published price list with regard to trophy fees and daily rates. For bookings between 6 months and 12 months in advance, we undertake to limit any increase to a maximum of 2%. We do not advise booking more than 12 months in advance, but will accept bookings on the basis that the deposit will be 40% of the current daily rates and the remainder of the costs will be based on the daily rates and trophy fees current at the time of the safari.

In the event of fluctuations in the exchange rate, cost of fuel or transport and daily living expenses reaching a level that would require an increase of 10% or more, we reserve the right to pass this increase onto you or offer a full refund of any monies already paid.

Alterations or Transfers of Bookings

If you wish to make any alterations to your booking after it has been confirmed, we will do our best to accommodate you. If additional expense is incurred in order to facilitate this, the cost will be added to your final account. We will inform you of any additional expense prior to incurring it. Additional cost for things such as changes to a flight schedule must be paid prior to this being arranged.

Cancellations and Changes

If you wish to cancel your safari, the following scale of charges will apply:

More than 42 days prior to commencement – 40% of the total cost of the daily rates

 29 – 42 days                                                       50%

15 – 28 days                                                       60%

1 – 14 days                                                         90%

After commencement date                                100%

In the event of any changes being necessary prior to your departure, such as a change of hunting venue or accommodation, we will replace it with that of an equal or superior standard at our expense. If this is not acceptable, we will refund all monies paid to that date.

If a change is necessary for unforeseen reason after the commencement of your safari, we will only do so with your agreement. If the change is of a major nature and you do not find our alternatives acceptable for any good reason, you have the right to cancel your trip and receive a refund of any monies pro rata owing after contracted expenses have been paid. We will arrange transport to your airport of departure and pay a sum of 50GBP per person, except where the cancellation or change is due to circumstances beyond our control or which could not have been reasonably foreseen, the consequences of which could not have been avoided with the exercise of all due care and diligence.

Health Precautions

Malaria is not endemic everywhere in Namibia, but it is recommended that you consult with your GP prior to traveling in order to consider whether you require anti malaria prophylactics.

Hunting involves a degree of physical activity. In most places, this is well within tolerable levels for an ordinary standard of fitness, but if you have any existing condition, we must be notified in order that we can decide whether or not to accept your booking. We cannot be held responsible for any illness or injury that occurs as a result of a pre-existing condition.

If, after confirmation of booking, you are diagnosed with any condition that may affect your fitness to travel or participate in your hunting, we must be informed immediately in order that we can decide whether it is safe to continue or whether we should cancel your booking. If it is not considered safe or practical to continue, we may be forced to cancel your booking without refund of the deposit paid. It is therefore recommended that you obtain cancellation insurance to cover you for this eventuality.

Failure to notify us of any condition or special needs that you may require may mean that we are forced to cancel your booking if we consider it is necessary. You may also be liable for any costs involving special arrangements or repatriation.

Safety and Liability

The use of firearms is a potentially hazardous situation and all clients will be monitored to ensure that safety is considered at all times. A shooting test will be conducted on arrival and all rifles will be checked for zero prior to commencement of hunting, by means of the client firing at a target at a known distance. If, in the opinion of the professional hunter, the client is unable to shoot in an accurate fashion, training will be given until the shooting is of an acceptable level to ensure that animals may be killed cleanly and humanely. It may be necessary for the professional hunter to deliver a back up shot in the event of an animal being wounded. This will in no way entail the client avoiding the trophy fee for that animal, but will only be done if absolutely necessary.

If an animal is wounded, every effort will be made to follow it and dispatch it humanely. In the rare and unfortunate event that this is not possible, the trophy fee will be payable in full for that animal. Evidence of wounding will mean blood or tissue traces found at or near the point of impact.

Rifles must be of a suitable calibre to match the size of the animals to be hunted. It is recommended that a calibre of .30 upwards is used, with a good telescopic sight and premium grade bullets. It must be remembered that much of the hunting may be done in medium to heavy bush conditions and that shots may be taken at ranges up to 300 metres.

It must be accepted that there is a certain, albeit small risk when hunting. Every care will be taken to ensure the safety of the client but every client will be required to sign a form of indemnity on arrival.

Our Obligations

Our obligation is to provide you with the facilities and services outlined in our contract, signed by all parties prior to the commencement of your safari. We have a duty of care to you and all others included in this contract. We cannot, however, be held liable for any illness, injury, death, loss (including enjoyment), damage or expense whatsoever that results from any of the following reasons:

The fault of the person affected or any other member of the party.

The fault of any person not involved in the running or administration of the safari, which could not have been reasonably predicted or avoided by us.

An event, incident or circumstance that could not reasonably have been predicted or avoided by us or any person involved in the running or administration of the safari.

The fault of anyone who is not carrying out work, (either directly or generally) for us at that particular time.

In any case where you did not enjoy your safari for some reason not communicated to us at the time or prior to your arrival.

Liability

If we are found to be liable, we limit the amount we may have to pay you for any and all claims that do not involve personal injury, illness or death. Except where a lower limit applies to your claim, for example under International Conventions governing travel and hotel stays, the maximum amount we will have to pay you for any non personal injury claim is twice the price of the safari of the person affected. The maximum is only payable if things have gone wrong to such an extent that you have had no benefit at all from your safari. If you miss your return flight because of our fault, our liability is limited to the reasonable cost of a similar flight within a reasonable time after the missed flight.
In respect of the provision of hotel accommodation our liability in all cases will be limited in accordance with the relevant International Convention.
Unless caused by our negligence, we will not be liable for any loss or damage to your luggage, valuables or personal effects.
Should you or any member of your party suffer personal injury during your safari arising out of any activity which does not form part of the safari arrangements contracted with us, and which is the responsibility of a third party, we shall offer you assistance and advice in pursuing any claim against that third party.

Insurance
We are covered by insurance as required by UK law but we do not provide holiday insurance for clients. You should therefore ensure that you have adequate insurance to cover any eventuality and in particular emergency medical care, as this can be expensive when abroad.

Complaints Procedure
If you have cause for complaint whilst on safari, you must bring it to the attention of our local representative or the professional hunter in charge, who will do his or her best to rectify the situation. It is unreasonable to take no action whilst on safari, but then to write a letter of complaint on your return. However, if a complaint remains unsolved you should make a complaint in writing to us within 28 days of the completion of the safari. We regret we cannot accept any complaint or problem, or accept liability for any compensation for it, if you fail to notify us strictly in accordance with this section.

Visa and Entrance Requirements
There is no requirement for a visa for citizens of the European Union or America. Your passport must not expire within 6 months of your entry date and there must be at least two blank pages.

Jurisdiction
English law applies to this agreement and the parties agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

When signing the contract and paying your deposit, you will have been deemed to have read and agreed with all the terms contained in this document. If there is anything that you do not agree with, please contact us in order that we may discuss it and come to an arrangement if possible.
